Experience Prague

11.11.13

Prague- It is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. I am impressed by its varied architecture with fine Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. Prague has long broken free of its Communist ties and continues to attract travellers from across the world, wether it is party by night or spectacular architecture by day. It is the best to visit this beautiful city not during the peak season, therefore take your time to explore and immerse yourself in the fascinating culture and history.

Highly recommanded by me is the "Design Metropol Praha" located at ulica Narodni, close to the city center. It has a young touch, delicious breakfast (pancakes, omelletes made in front of you with your desired filling) and an indian restaurant serving its finest specialities.

                                                   Walk the Old Town

The oldest area of Prague and certainly the most heritage-rich has to be the Old Town (Stare Mesto) which is brimming with fine architectural examples. Spend time in the Old Town Square where the buildings will astound you during your stay in Prague. Admire the richness of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque structures. Learn about the past while being in the Museum of Communism and learn about Art Nouveau at the Mucha Museum and the cubism movement at the Museum of Czech Cubism.

                                                    John Lennon Wall

After his murder on 8 December 1980 John Lennon became a pacifist hero for many young Czechs. An image of Lennon was painted on a wall in a square opposite the French Embassy, along with political graffiti and Beatles lyrics. Despite reapeated attempts to clean that wall, the seceret policy never managed to keep it clean for long, and the Lennon Wall became a political focus for Prague youth.

                                                    Museum Kampa

Still craving for art?
Go to Museum Kampa- a modern art gallery, showing central European work. The pieces are from the private collection of Meda Mladek, wife of Jan V. Mladek.
Right in front of its building are three huge, crawling baby sculptures to be seen, and as I saw, really everybody is posing with them ;)

Address:  U Sovových mlýnů 2, 118 00 Prague, Czech Republic

Are you asking yourself now who`s the sculptor of those mega-babies?

David Cerny is the Czech genius whose works can be seen all over Prague and are told to be controversial. Another work of his you may enjoy at the Franz Kafka Museum, right in front of it- two peeing men.

Up for some fun and for achieving a magnificant view over whole prag?
Jump into a narrow- gauge railway or climb up the Petrin Mountain!

What will await you there? a "Tour L`Eiffel"

The best- and funniest experiece- a mirrormaze! :D
Get larger, taller, "dwarfaniste" ;)

                                     Explore the fascinating Castle District

The stunning centrepiece of the Castle district is, as you would expect, the magnificant Prague Castle itself, the Hradcany. Formerly the seat of the King, today it is the seat of the Czech president. This is in fact the biggest medieval castle complex on earth. Buy a ticket to explore the area and prepare yourself for large crowds. At the center of the castle complex lies the St. Vitus Cathedral which dates back to the 14th century, with many later additions. See the rose window and gorgoyles of the Western portal and the Flying Buttresses in the eastern section.

Hungry?
Go to Vikarka right across the St. Vitus Cathedral

During the reign of the emperor Rudolph II there was an alchemist workshop here where, on the authority of the emperor, the known alchemists J. Kepler or Tycho de Brahe were trying to find a way how to produce gold, philosophers` stone or tincture. The building was later changed into a court stable but when there was built a nicer stable in front of the Powder Gate bridge, the former emperor`s foundry was degraded to a shed. The main cathedral started to be renovated and this house was used as a storage, and in 1876 the whole building was offered to the St. Vitus chapter.

Nowadays, you may eat for example 150g Vicar`s beef goulash with red onion and bread dumplings, or traditional Czech cream sauce with baked beef, bread dumplings and cranberries.

Who said toys are just for children?

Situated in the Old Count`s Chambers of Prague Castle, in the vicinity of the Golden Lane, the Prague Toy Museum is said to be the second largest museum of this kind in the world. In the seven exhibition rooms, that takes up not less than two floors are collected toys from all over the world, starting from Greek ancient times and ending with most modern Barbie exemplars.
You will get the chance to see traditional toys, toy cars, and motorcycles, air planes and toy trains, teddy bears, and barbie dolls.

                                                                ARTEL

ARTEL Glass is a luxury crystal company known for its striking collection of bareware, stemware and decorative items handmade by Czech artisans.

                                                                   Ice bar

Can you imagine that during warm summer days one can jump into a metallic suit, put gloves on, and march in into a chamber in which you have -8 degrees inside, enjoying a rumcranberry drink zipping it right from an ice glass-- well THIS is possible in Prague`s Ice Bar!

Are you a fan of theatre?

Stay tuned for their latest shows, it is worth it!!!
When I was in Prague, they played Friedrich Dürrenmatt`s "The Physicists" magnificantly :)

Special thanks to +Emilio Bellu :)

Right after that spectacle, go check for the IMPROV COMEDY SHOW!
I was surprised that two of the "physicists" actually play here, too ;) (Einstein and the Inspector)

They played games, while afterwards we as the audience could give marks via applause.
My favourite one was, when we were allowed to write famous quotes of movies and the comedians had to fill them into their role play :D

As we are a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his hilarious german accent while speaking english, we wrote "Put that cookie down, NOW!" ;)

(Cookie appeared to be a guitar later during the play)

Since I want to buy myself a great digitalcamera, I was quite happy that I have come across the
