Gdansk, the long market

Having a photo taken with Neptune is the duty of every tourist in Gdansk. This characteristic statue having his trident was designed by Peter Husen. Today the Neptune Fountain is one of the most important landmarks of the city, chosen by tourists as a meeting point and the object of photo sessions. Although the fountain´s origins are directly connected to the merchant and burgher history of the city, it was nevertheless accepted by the communist authorities and became a symbol of the city.

The long street (Dluga)

The street is called "Dluga" and is the most prestigious part of the old section of the city. Dluga
(Long Street) and Dlugi Targ (Long Market) are designed to be gastronomic and club centre of the city and they do have a lot of cafes and restaurants. Unfortunately, off- season business in the whole area comes to a halt as soon it gets dark. There is absolutely nothing here at night, you have to venture into other parts of the city (scroll down for my nightlife tips for you).

ul piwna and chlebnicka street

Piwna street ( the "Beerstreet") is slowly becoming the most popular and most crowded place in the old city. The idea is to create an alternative here to dluga for meeting, strolling and eating. So in the last few years, a host of new restaurants, cafes and clubs has sprung up,
ul. Mariacka
Mariacka street for many years was the most representative showpiece of the old part of Gdansk. It is narrow and carefully restored in the medieval style, which leads many to consider it picturesque.

Fishmarket (Targ rybny)
Fischermarkt

Doki station (stocznia)

Undoubtly, one of the most original places in the whole of the Tricity. a relic of one of the largest and most important industrial plants of the entire region, A place where the workers` protest was born which gave rise to the bloodless overthrow of communism.

Dock Station (Stocznia)

Shipyard cranes
They are gigantic and most of them are still in operation , although the shipyard has put a curb on its production. They are sometimes used for unusual purposes- some time ago a group of Gdansk artists prepared a choreographic arrangement in which the cranes appeared in the role of ... dancers. For a while the cranes were in great danger - they were to disappear in the future alongside the rest of the shipyard infrastructure, but fortunately they found many supporters.

Must-do`s around this area:
1) Muzeum Solidarnosci: learn about the polish history with its magnificant visualisations
2) B90: It is an alternative art gallery during the day, and a concert hall by night

Shipyard-Krane

Must-do`s in diesem Bereich:

Fish
You should know, I am not keen on eating fish, but as my boyfriend spontaneously asked me out to eat sushi with him and I had my first bite- i was totally into it! I love the combination of sweet fruites like mango, honey melon or let it be fried cucumber, carrots, pineapple, white reddish,  together with fried fish and sushi rice. We ordered inte alia the famous Futomaki:

Futomaki is a type of rolled sushi that is known for its large size and careful balance of ingredients. People who think of sushi as just raw fish are often very surprised by the care and artistry that goes into these rolls. They are usually filled with different colored vegetables and may not even contain fish at all. Chefs design Futomaki to be both delicious and pleasing to the eye, and they often choose ingredients for how well they balance with each other both in taste and looks.

Fisch

Cooles Lokal!

4) Bunkier Klubogaleria
Jaw-dropping. On ul. Olejarna stands a six-storey, re-enforced concrete cube built as an air-raid shelter, bunker and anti-aircraft battery by the Germans during WWII. The only building in the area to survive the war, for many years it stood empty, save being used as a climbing wall, until someone with a magnificent imagination and access to a colossal amount of money decided to turn it into a club. The results are breathtaking.

Jaw-dropping.
